The Gulf of California is an inlet that separates the Baja California Sur peninsula with the rest of mainland Mexico. Home to some incredible sea life including rays, dolphins, turtles, rare seabirds and a vast array of whales from humpbacks, to orcas and the world's largest animal the blue whale. This swim starts in the bay of La Paz, the peninsula's largest city. From there you'll pass the city itself and continue north past Playa Balandra (pictured) and out into the open sea. From there it's a straight swim across the gulf until you reach El Maviri beach, one of the most popular beach resorts in Sinaloa.
