Swimming the British Channel an almost iconic feat, 21 miles at its shortest point from Shakespeare Cliff, between Folkestone and Dover to Cap Gris Nez near Calais, it is widely accepted as the ultimate long distance swimming event. The fastest official crossing came in a little over 7 hours, the slowest being 27 hours.
