Loch Ness is one of the most famous bodies of water in the world, due to the legend of the Loch Ness Monster. Situated on the Great Glen fault which runs from Fort William to Inverness, it’s the largest of a series of interconnected Lochs and waterways that make up the Caledonian Canal. The Loch is over 200m deep and contains more water than every lake in England and Wales combined. The swim starts at Fort Augustus and heads North East, past the picturesque ruins of Urquhart Castle in Drumnadrochit, finishing at Lochend. This is a tough swim; similar in length to the English Channel. Expect cold murky water, encounters with monsters and whoops of encouragement from American tourists!
