Separating Europe from Africa, The Strait of Gibraltar it is the point where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean. Despite its strong currents and violent tidal swings, swimming the strait has become a popular physical challenge. Most of the attempts have been made from Tarifa Island to the vicinity of Punta Cires, a gruelling 16 kilometre swim.
